A few days ago, while investigating something else, I found out the lovely Leanne had passed away. She was the beautiful blonde who enlivened Benny's song "Lulubelle" (episode of Dec. 17, 1975) by ringing the bells attached to her bosom, without using her hands.
The date, and even the year, of her passing is uncertain. The website of the Grand Order of Lady Ratlings*, the long-standing social and charitable organization for women in British showbiz, gives it as 1997; the British Film Institute says 2000. As the BFI's dates can be somewhat wonky (their birth year for Sue is off by two years) and Leanne had obviously been a member of the GOLR, I'm more inclined to trust the Ratlings' date.
Regardless of when Leanne went to the big variety show in the sky, she was (like Diana Darvey) a lovely lady who left us far too soon. A belated farewell and Godspeed to her.
* Love Machinist Claire Lutter currently holds the official position of "3rd Guard" among the Lady Ratlings. Does that mean if I were to go to London and raise a ruckus at one of their meetings, she and the other two guards would beat me up? Yes, please!
